THE FIRST HALLUNISSONS PROJECT can be summarized in one sentence: we are going on a one-year itinerant journeyto discover and document, in immersion, local socio-ecological and cultural initiatives carried out by committed people; to question, inspire and challenge ourselves, and to fight against the strong feeling of powerlessness that we feel. We are going to meet those who have chosen to live differently, here and now, to shake up collective beliefs and to build networks of mutual aid and solidarity on their territories.
Faced with the generalized lack of real interest on one side and despondency on the other, this audiovisual project, coupled with action research, aims to make desirable ecological, decreasing and cooperative commitments and lifestyles in a world in crisis of meaning. In an urgent need to re-humanize and re-convivialize our existences" (MORIN, 2022), we wish to explore fabrics of conviviality, of mutual aid, in a perspective of metamorphosis and awareness of the intrinsic link and interdependencies that link humanity, the living and the Earth.
The key reasons for this project (set up in the context of a gap year) are multiple. On the one hand: our curiosity and our desire to dig into the functioning and organization of the collective dynamics of places that inspire us and have an impact on their territory (mostly rural). Then: our burning questions about the limits of the institutionalization of ecological transition projects and the return to the local and rural. Finally: our indignation at the lack of inclusiveness of public policies put in place to reduce our impact on the environment, which tend to maintain - or even increase (Deldrève, Candau, Noûs, 2021) - the reproduction of social inequalities.
We are going to discover utopias insofar as they have a critical function that allows us to distance ourselves from the established order, as well as a projective function that allows us to concretely question the implementation of "commons" and the ways of "making society". It is an investigation of concrete utopian forms of life that we wish to initiate, and that we wish to share thereafter. Alternatives carried by people who build a bridge between dream and action. The main objective of the documentary/fiction is thus to stimulate, through an artistic proposal and thanks to the power of the image, the creative resources of the spectator rather than his anxieties.
In parallel, the website of the association will be updated, throughout the year, with academic articles and study reports in order to share with as many people as possible the progress of our discoveries and research on our themes of interest. We will also update the website with photographs, gourmet recipes discovered on the road, bibliographic sharing (readings, screenings and others that have marked us) and any other idea that comes to mind! Then, the restitution of our study trip, through projections-debates, will aim to initiate discussions around questions that anger, surprise, and bring together to build the world of tomorrow. We will therefore create a content showing an incubator of initiatives, which raises questions in the viewer, so that each one can interpret it in his own way and create a mental map of our study object.
Our approach is not typological and is anchored in a logic of diversity: we have chosen to meet and participate in the daily life of very heterogeneous collectives (eco-places, associations, third places, self-managed space, community, squat, imagined commune, valley, commune...). It is not a question of differentiating and classifying the projects that we document but of questioning the common foundations of a multiplicity of social and political experiments. We have thus taken the risk of dispersing the field studies, which has led us to think of the concept of "archipelago of solidarities" from which we draw our inspiration. An archipelago is a set of emerged islands, supported by the same submerged continental base. This is why we open our research to the multiplicity, and in different countries; in a will to put into perspective the cultural and historical dynamics and the socio-economic realities of the countries and territories of the projects.
Our research methodology will be based on immersion stays of one or more weeks within the collectives we meet - which will also be our filming locations - in order to understand their philosophy, their objectives, their history and their functioning, via participant observation and semi-directive interviews in certain cases. From this process we wish to establish a simplified message, which will arouse astonishment, collective reinterpretation and debate, thanks to the documentary. We will exchange with the actors (and friends, comrades!) who work to make the eco-places/collectives/communities we will visit live, listen to their messages, and draw critical and objective inspiration from their advice and feedback.
We travel by hitchhiking: we have chosen a sober & ecological trip, which allows for the chance of the trip, and opens us to the diversity of the population, to heterogeneous and cosmopolitan discoveries which are an integral part of our discovery of the regions in which we carry out our investigations!
